Short backstory here. Erin Paruszkewski and I met online, does that surprise you much? I am always working to broaden my network through these wonderful tools we have. Give it a try and you never know who you may meet. When Erin and I connected over the phone it was true from the start we had a lot in common and shared similar values and passions. I am happy to share a part of her story with you and how she got started with her amazing fitness brand, ALKALIGN Studios. This interview touches on her fitness business, socially Erin and a few fun personal questions.
Hi erin! please share How did you come up with the idea for ALKALIGN?
I’ve been passionate about fitness my entire life and wanted to leverage both my background as an (often injured) athlete and in business to create something that will help people feel better both today and tomorrow. There is such a focus on the here and now when it comes to fitness. Instant results. Instant caloric burn.
However, I believe there there is so much more to the way we move. Exercise isn’t punishment for what you did yesterday. It’s training for what you want to do tomorrow and we are living longer than ever. We get one body and Alkalign is a safe, sustainable and quality lifestyle that will allow you to live in a healthy and pain free body for decades to come. Alkalign allows me to provide something healthy to the communities we serve and now that we are franchising, provides an opportunity for me to mentor other business owners. A win-win!
with so many fitness boutiques out there … What distinguishes you from the rest?
What differentiates us is our commitment to safety and sustainability. A lot of thought and research goes into everything we do at Alkalign, all with the purpose of doing right by our clients. Not all movement is created equally and we want to ensure that everything our clients are exposed to is only positive in nature. We work closely with physical therapists, orthopedists and other body mechanics experts.
we kinda want to know; do men take your barre classes?
YES! Lots of men. That’s a huge differentiator from a lot of group fitness and barre in particular. Functional training is something everyone needs and everyone can do! Our environment is inclusive and supportive. And the classes make you feel better. Who doesn’t want that?
Being so passionate about what you do. We need to ask, what is the best part of your job?
Being the best part of someone’s day!
When you’re not working and want to escape, where do you love to travel?
Warm weather! Hawaii or Mexico. Although once my daughters are older I hope to travel a little farther….New Zealand and Asia are top of the list!
Being in health & fitness we have to ask; What’s one food you could not live without?
What’s one quote that’s always stuck with you?
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
How have you used social media to leverage your business goals?
Social media allows us to extend the Alkalign community beyond the 4 walls of one studio. Community is one of the main reasons why people love Alkalign. It’s an additional source of connection. I love that it allows us to connect with each other and share our mission of educating, empowering and inspiring each other to be better versions of ourselves.
What social media platform provides you the most success with your brand/business?
I’d say Instagram! (Anyone else surprised??)
we love social media. What do you think? is social media an effective tool for the fitness and health industry?
Yes, absolutely. It’s a great way to see what else is out there to follow like-minded people. I find it educational and inspiring.
Spill the beans: 3 brands/people you find inspirational on Instagram?
I like @ariannahuff (focus on wellness and sleep) @nutritiousmovement (love of biomechanics) and @beyond yoga (love the diverse representation of women)
for someone who is just starting a fitness account…What’s the best advice you’d give?
Be patient and kind to yourself. It’s never too late to begin again.
just for fun – top three apps you use on your phone, GO!
Amazon Prime ☺, Instagram & Audible
2018 is going to be a great year! What’s next for you?
